Position Summary
The role is essential for ensuring precise and prompt preparation and dissemination of financial data within the hotel. This position supports the General Manager by delivering analytical insights and management information to enhance profitability while adhering to corporate accounting standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Compile and consolidate monthly and quarterly forecasts to ensure accuracy in financial reporting.
- Forecast departmental revenues and expenses in alignment with company policies.
- Deliver timely summaries of revenue and profit forecasts as mandated by corporate guidelines.
- Prepare comprehensive monthly and quarterly financial statements, highlighting variances from budget.
- Assist in creating detailed year-end working papers for audit purposes.
- Oversee the proper utilization of the purchase order system by department heads.
- Process and authorize all capital requests in accordance with company policies.
- Ensure efficient management of accounts payable, accounts receivable, income audits, cashiering, and payroll functions.
- Collaborate with the General Manager and department heads to develop the budget for operational review.
- Promote team engagement in achieving budgetary goals through proactive guidance and training.
- Enhance understanding and utilization of financial reports and results.
- Participate in monthly and quarterly financial reviews with the General Manager, providing additional insights as necessary.
- Supply management information to the General Manager to facilitate timely business decisions.
- Maintain ethical accounting practices and report any discrepancies to the Vice-President of Accounting.
- Ensure that account adjustments are executed and authorized as per company policy.
- Work collaboratively with internal and external auditors to ensure efficient completion of audits.
- Maintain organized filing systems for easy access to information by authorized personnel.
- Manage leases and ensure effective cash flow and asset management in line with company standards.
- Oversee the timely conversion of various financial systems.
- Provide training and support to other properties as directed by management.
- Ensure compliance with corporate authorization for any onsite cheque issuance.
- Accurately accrue month-end items in accordance with company policies.
- Assist in the verification of cash and credit card deposits against bank records.
- Manage property cash floats and ensure regular audits of cash handling.
- Track all paid-out expenditures, including guest refunds, in line with company policy.
- Alert management to any cash shortages or policy deviations.
- Coordinate bank deposits following company protocols.
- Assist in the accurate counting and recording of inventory as required.
- Review and implement all accounting and cash control procedures as outlined in corporate policies.
Departmental Management Duties
- Schedule staff and forecast revenues and expenses to maintain effective cost control.
- Ensure effective communication through regular briefings and departmental meetings.
- Adhere to hygiene, health, safety, and emergency procedures as required.
- Fulfill reasonable requests as directed by management.
- Maintain adequate supplies and equipment while adhering to departmental budgets.
- Oversee hiring, training, and performance management of staff.
- Uphold standards of punctuality and professional appearance among staff.
- Act as Manager on Duty as needed, maintaining professional standards.
- Foster team commitment to achieving the company's mission and goals.
- Assist in various roles as necessary to meet operational standards.
- Ensure staff are trained in the safe use of equipment and chemicals.
- Commit to guest satisfaction and address any feedback promptly.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures.
- Contribute to building security and asset safety by following security protocols.
- Complete month-end and year-end responsibilities as required.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned by management.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance.
- Experience: At least 5 years of accounting experience within the hospitality sector.
- Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel is essential; familiarity with Great Plains software is advantageous.
- Attributes: Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, organizational and time management abilities, along with analytical and creative thinking.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to sit for extended periods.
