About the Role

The University of Alberta Hospital is a leading clinical, research, and teaching hospital, treating over 700,000 patients annually. As an Occupational Therapist I, you will be part of the centralized Rehabilitation and Allied Health Program, supporting patients in the Critical Care team, particularly in the General Systems ICU and Burns service area.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide evidence-informed services to meet the needs of individuals, groups, or communities, focusing on occupational performance.
  • Act as a direct service provider, consultant, educator, or advocate, functioning as an integral healthcare team member.
  • Engage individuals, groups, and communities to enable meaningful and chosen occupations, including self-care, productivity, and leisure.
  • Support clients to achieve optimum functional abilities and independence related to their cognitive, affective, spiritual, and physical strengths and limitations.
  • Collaborate with clients and families as integral members of the healthcare team, encouraging their active participation in all aspects of care.
  • Participate in interprofessional teams to build awareness, enrich support, and engage in quality improvement by partnering with healthcare providers, patients, families, and other stakeholders to advance services for clients.
Requirements
  • Completion of a bachelor's degree in Occupational Therapy from an accredited university program.
  • Registered with the Alberta College of Occupational Therapists (ACOT).
  • Experience in critical care, grafts, and wound care is highly recommended.
  • Experience in trauma care, splinting, pressure injury management is also highly recommended and beneficial to complete the demands of the position.
  • Recent acute care experience in adults.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experiences with complex patient populations (chronic disease management, pulmonary, end of life care).
  • Assessment and treatment skills (edema management, wound care, cognition, pressure injury/positioning, scar management).
  • Connect Care training is preferred.
  • Basic computer skills are a must, and familiarity with Netcare, Connect Care, Outlook, and other electronic medical records are preferred.
