As a Relief Supervisor, you will oversee the mail delivery and processing operations within a designated area. This role involves managing the activities of letter carriers and other staff responsible for mail delivery, ensuring efficient manual processing of mail during your assigned shifts. You will act as the representative of the organization, regularly communicating performance expectations and updates to your team.
- Supervise daily operations of a team to guarantee the safe and efficient sorting, routing, and delivery of mail in compliance with established regulations and procedures.
- Oversee the processing of various classes of mail within a postal facility, setting daily priorities to meet deadlines and service commitments. Monitor delivery and scanning exceptions, coordinating with other operational functions for seamless mail movement.
- Implement and promote workplace safety and health initiatives, coaching employees on safe practices to minimize accidents. Conduct investigations and address health and safety concerns promptly.
- Provide leadership and guidance to team members, fostering a respectful work environment. Manage human resources processes including staffing, performance evaluations, and attendance management.
- Estimate workloads to ensure adequate staffing levels, authorizing overtime as necessary. Assign staff to different operational areas based on fluctuating mail volumes.
- Evaluate current operational methods, recommending improvements to enhance efficiency. Communicate changes and collaborate with support teams as needed.
- Conduct daily assessments of employee productivity, addressing any abnormalities and striving for continuous improvement in performance.
- Maintain administrative records regarding processed volumes and employee attendance, performing necessary administrative tasks associated with the supervisory role.
- Build and maintain positive relationships with external stakeholders, including representatives from bargaining units and contractors.
Education:
High School diploma or equivalent (GED) is required; equivalent experience may be accepted.
Experience:
At least 1 year of experience in team management or a minimum of 2 years in a unionized environment. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is essential.
Assets:
Post-secondary degree or diploma is considered an asset.
