Position Overview:
Reporting to the Director of the Privacy Program, the Privacy and Access Council of Canada (PACC-CCAP) is seeking a Senior Privacy Advisor. This role involves providing comprehensive support to the organization's privacy initiatives through expert advice, technical guidance, and training. The Senior Privacy Advisor will play a pivotal role in interpreting and enhancing the privacy framework, ensuring alignment with governmental regulations, compliance mandates, and industry-leading practices.
Key Responsibilities:
- Ensure adherence to the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and other relevant legislative frameworks.
- Foster the development of privacy best practices that exceed basic legislative requirements, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA).
- Stay abreast of evolving privacy legislation and industry trends, assessing their implications for organizational practices.
- Serve as a subject matter expert, offering guidance to various departments to uphold privacy policies and compliance obligations.
- Embody the core values of PACC-CCAP in all interactions, particularly in managing confidential information.
- Assist in the governance of the privacy program, including the establishment and monitoring of privacy objectives.
- Implement strategic privacy initiatives, encompassing policy development and risk management strategies.
- Conduct research to identify best practices and potential risks, enhancing the effectiveness of privacy policies.
- Address complex privacy issues, keeping senior management informed and proposing necessary adjustments.
- Evaluate privacy risks and collaborate with stakeholders to formulate effective mitigation strategies.
- Investigate privacy incidents, facilitating a thorough response process and ensuring compliance with privacy regulations.
- Lead inquiries and respond to privacy-related complaints, serving as the primary liaison with regulatory bodies.
- Collaborate with internal audit teams to address findings from privacy assessments.
- Monitor assigned risks and ensure compliance with established mitigation plans.
- Facilitate privacy committee meetings and maintain a network of essential contacts within the organization.
Qualifications:
- A degree in Business Administration, Information Management, Information Technology, Public Policy, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Proven experience in providing technical guidance on information access and privacy, preferably within the public sector.
- Strong understanding of privacy legislation and regulations, including FIPPA and PIPEDA.
- Experience in conducting privacy impact assessments for new initiatives.
- Proficient in preparing documentation, reports, and training materials related to privacy issues.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex information effectively to diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to build collaborative relationships and influence decision-making processes.
- Knowledge of data management and security concepts to ensure compliance with privacy standards.
