About the Role

Aecon is seeking a highly skilled Welding Engineer to join our Nuclear Centre of Excellence (COE) department. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for overseeing technical aspects of projects and initiatives, providing support with schedule development, and assisting in the development and troubleshooting of welding processes and equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee technical aspects of projects and initiatives undertaken by the welding COE department
  • Provide support with development of detailed, resource-loaded schedules
  • Assist in developing, troubleshooting, designing, testing and training with various types of welding processes and pieces of equipment
  • Assist with Aecon Nuclear welding school activities and classes (theoretical and hands on)
  • Track the day-to-day operations within the COE welding facility with respect to deliverable obligations
  • Support of contract proposal efforts and review of customer supplied technical data
  • Assist with the set-up of project accounting systems and monitoring of project execution (cost codes, job cost processing procedures, project rules of credit)
  • Generate project status reports for internal management and for customers as required
Requirements
  • College and/or University degree in Engineering or related field, or equivalent work experience, specifically mechanical, materials, mechatronics, welding & robotics and other such technical programs with an emphasis on welding.
  • Minimum 2 years of industry welding, or manufacturing experience
  • Practical hands on experience with manufacturing tools and welding is an asset
  • Familiar with welding principles is preferred. (Basics of arc welding, types of welding etc.)
  • Familiar with robotics or comparable semi-automated and mechanized machinery is an asset
  • Previous design experience with tools, fixtures and simple rigging is an asset
  • Able to produce solid models and 2D manufacturing drawings in Solidworks, Autodesk Inventor or an equivalent CAD package
  • Intermediate to expert proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word
  • Organizational skills to handle multiple tasks within a high-pressure environment
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and oral)
  • Ability to work effectively with all levels of management and employees
  • Willingness for continuous learning and advancement of technical knowledge
  • Detail oriented and passionate
  • Must possess valid G driver's license and have access to a vehicle
  • Takes pride in work to strive for excellence and instill this mindset onto others
  • A passion for welding is an asset
  • Have a willingness to mentor and share knowledge
  • Practices a strong safety culture
  • Must have a positive attitude to develop and test new solutions to solve a variety of technical welding issues
  • The ability to think "outside of the box" is an asset

  • Strong problem solving and trouble shooting skills
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Willingness to want to continuously learn, try new approaches, experiment with new technologies and push the envelope related to welding, manufacturing, machinery and tooling development
  • Experience with Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project is an asset
  • Ability to maintain active schedule tracking and resource management initiatives
  • Applied knowledge of Project Management and Project Controls principles an asset
  • Applied knowledge of the "Earned Value" principles an asset
  • Applied knowledge of cost engineering / cost control is an asset
  • Experience with Hard Dollar/InEight and SAP ERP systems is an asset
