About the Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Community Outreach Worker to join our team at Nova Scotia Health and IWK Health. As a key member of our mental health and addictions team, you will play a vital role in providing clinical services to adults and their families affected by mental illness and/or substance use or gambling disorder.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a range of clinical services, including screening, assessment, brief intervention, case management/navigation, individual and group treatment.
  • Work in both clinic and community settings, navigating and advocating for clients and their families.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations and agencies to ensure seamless service delivery.
  • Utilize principles of harm reduction, community development, and psychosocial rehabilitation to inform practice.
  • Stay up-to-date with best practices and evidence-based treatments to ensure high-quality care.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor of Social Work degree.
  • Registration or eligibility for registration with a professional regulatory body.
  • One year post-BSW clinical experience in mental health and addictions.
  • Screening and risk assessment skills, including suicide risk assessment.
  • Ability to work independently, assess situations, and implement evidence-based plans of care.
  • Working knowledge of the DSM.
  • Experience with brief, supportive intervention strategies focusing on harm reduction and recovery.
  • Ability to navigate and de-escalate situations, offer crisis support, and facilitate groups.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain collaborative relationships.
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred.

  • A competitive hourly rate of $33.27-$42.01.
  • A long-assignment full-time position with 75 hours biweekly.
