Job Responsibilities:
- Engage in comprehensive analyses to assist stakeholders in articulating and documenting functional and data requirements, as well as operational limitations concerning potential IT solutions for straightforward to moderately complex challenges. Formulate alternative solutions within the company’s frameworks, considering options for development or procurement, and assess potential modifications. Evaluate alternatives by estimating life-cycle costs and aiding users in identifying and quantifying advantages. Offer informed recommendations to clients aimed at enhancing their business processes through effective use of technology. Develop pilot projects or prototypes and prepare documentation to support preferred solutions. Collaborate with stakeholders to review recommendations. Participate in technical and economic assessments that require specialized knowledge of IT services, methodologies, and tools. Propose strategies for leveraging emerging technologies.
- Oversee design, development, and implementation tasks for systems or databases of simple to moderate complexity. This includes working with applications such as Autodesk Utility for Design and SAP. Construct conceptual models that define functional components, processes, and data relationships. Review models with users and relevant IT departments, recommending approaches for design, development, testing, and implementation while considering system interfaces. Conduct high-level design assessments and estimate processing costs. Collaborate with users to verify compliance with requirements through testing procedures. Assist in the development of complex systems and create prototype solutions.
- Manage maintenance activities for systems or databases of varying complexity. This includes maintaining software library files and advising users on system production. Implement enhancements to meet evolving user needs and analyze issues to implement corrective measures. Prioritize maintenance tasks effectively.
- Provide expert consultative services in IT domains. Assist users and management in understanding and utilizing available technology services. Offer specialized knowledge regarding software tools and systems, ensuring quality in system and database development.
- Conduct procurement activities for IT products with low to medium impact. Perform market research, prepare tender documents, and evaluate vendor proposals. Develop test plans and assess compliance with user requirements.
- Prepare comprehensive reports and correspondence addressing technical matters. Participate in planning and review meetings with technical staff and management, ensuring alignment on project specifications and documentation.
- Administer production systems, monitoring their effectiveness and recommending corrective actions as necessary. Ensure security and integrity of systems and databases.
- Facilitate training and education on various IT products and systems. Develop user documentation and training materials, and conduct instructional sessions.
- Provide technical guidelines on the selection and application of IT products and services.
- Supervise staff, assigning tasks and providing guidance on programming and design methodologies.
- Suggest improvements to enhance operational efficiency within the scope of responsibilities.
- Perform additional duties as required.
Selection Criteria:
Education:
- A solid understanding of design principles related to computing systems and software is essential for providing effective solutions.
- Knowledge of electrical design theory is necessary for addressing complex IT challenges.
- Familiarity with Lines Relocation Costing procedures is required.
- A comprehensive understanding of computer science principles, including systems analysis, data management, and programming, is essential.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills are necessary for effective coordination with clients and team members.
- This expertise is typically acquired through a four-year university degree, complemented by relevant experience.
Experience:
- Extensive experience in defining IT requirements and implementing systems for complex challenges is required.
- Proficiency in understanding information processing concepts and software is essential.
- Experience with SAP Sales and Distribution costing module is necessary.
- Familiarity with Hydro One engineering standards and relevant software tools is preferred.
- A minimum of 8 to 10 years of relevant experience is typically required.
