Job Summary

Cornwall Community Hospital is seeking a Clinical Extern to participate in our Enhanced Extern Program. This transitional program aims to support human resources and provide an opportunity for students to apply their knowledge, develop important skills, and gain patient experience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with mobility assistance, Activities of Daily Living, and comfort measures.
  • Work collaboratively with the unit clinical team under direct and/or indirect supervision of a registered health professional.
  • Provide support to patient care teams by assisting with skin integrity, activation, companionship, and social engagement.
  • Perform other care activities as needed and appropriate for the clinical area and population served.
Requirements
  • Currently enrolled in and/or completed one of the following: nursing, occupational therapy, paramedic, physiotherapy, or respiratory therapy programs.
  • Current BCLS certification.
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively in a team environment, work independently, and communicate effectively with diverse patients and families.
  • Knowledge of body mechanics, safe patient lift and transfer practices, and organizational/time management skills.
