About the Role:

Alberta Health Services is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Nurse Practitioner to join our Addiction and Mental Health Outreach Team in Medicine Hat, Alberta. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will provide comprehensive health services to individuals across their lifespan, focusing on diagnosing and managing common and complex health conditions, promoting health, and preventing illness/injury.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a full range of comprehensive health services to individuals, including assessing, diagnosing, ordering, and interpreting diagnostic tests, prescribing treatment, and performing procedures to manage and meet the health needs of patients.
  • Integrate clinical skills associated with nursing and medicine to increase care quality, promote appropriate use of health services, and inform and influence healthcare systems.
  • Collaborate with community partner teams to provide care to individuals whose lives have been impacted by unstable housing, socioeconomic factors, and substances.
  • Work in a community-based and recovery-oriented environment, providing concurrent support to individuals who require treatment for a variety of medical conditions, including chronic disease, acute wound care, and STBBI testing/treatment.

Requirements:

  • Successful completion of an approved Nurse Practitioner program and a minimum of master's degree.
  • Registration with CRNA on the Nurse Practitioner Registrar, including Provisional Graduate Nurse Practitioner licensure.
  • Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP) certification.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of addiction and/or mental health treatment modalities, including motivational interviewing, cognitive-behavioural therapy, and solution-focused therapy.
  • A proven ability to work with community stakeholders and foster positive relationships within a multidisciplinary team environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience providing Addiction and Mental Health/Public Health services.
  • Experience engaging complex clients in a variety of settings.
  • Knowledge and/or experience of harm reduction strategies.
  • Knowledge of testing and treatment pathways for HIV and HCV.
  • Nonviolent crisis intervention training and suicide intervention training.
  • Naloxone administration training.
