Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Planner - Land Use and Development to join our team in Hamilton. Reporting to the Executive team, this individual will play a key role in managing the team/office, client relationships, and project outcomes, while providing guidance and coaching to junior and intermediate staff.

The successful candidate will thrive in a dynamic environment and liaise directly with top developers and consultants, as one of Ontario's top Planning & Design consulting firms.

The ideal candidate is an experienced Planner and leader, with a strong industry reputation, a self-starter, and a team player with a 'no task is too big or too small' attitude.

Responsibilities

  • Manage team in the Hamilton office, as well as client relationships and project outcomes
  • Participate in hiring, coaching, training, and mentoring Planners
  • Review planning rationale reports, including the analysis section and review sections prepared by junior staff
  • Oversee the completion of complex planning studies, development applications, OPA, rezoning, subdivisions, variance, and consents
  • Present to the public, Committees, and Councils, clients, and stakeholders
  • Provide high-quality service to clients in a timely and efficient manner
  • Manage reports dealing with a wide range of development and application types
  • Provide advanced detailed technical information and recommendations through written reports, public responses, internal memos, studies, and presentations on current planning issues and the implications of various aspects of land use and development
  • Review planning opinions and analytical reports for a wide range of planning studies, plans, and applications
  • Direct the team on collection of research data and information on a variety of properties across the GTHA
  • Perform advanced professional work related to advanced planning assignments and land use projects

Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience with a deep understanding of the real estate development industry
  • Post-secondary education with a focus on Urban Planning is ideal. Graduate degree and professional designations are considered an asset
  • Superior leadership skills with the ability to build relationships with internal teams and external stakeholders
  • Proven communication, relationship management, and presentation skills
  • Ability to deliver on commitments and manage multiple deliverables within tight timelines
  • Collaborative attitude with the capacity and willingness to manage multiple tasks by being flexible/adaptable and responding to changing circumstances
  • Ability to problem solve effectively and adept at presenting complex information clearly and concisely
  • Excels in a dynamic and fast-paced environment and enjoys new challenges
  • Highly collaborative and self-starter, with the ability to work independently
  • Friendly and professional demeanor with a positive attitude
  • Interest in attending professional development events, networking events, and conferences
