Position Overview: Situated in a vibrant urban environment, the City of North Vancouver is dedicated to enhancing its District Energy System, which currently serves numerous buildings and residential units. With a commitment to ambitious sustainability goals, we are seeking a strategic, collaborative, and results-driven Lead Project Coordinator to manage critical energy generation initiatives over the next few years.
Under the guidance of the Deputy Director, this role encompasses all facets of design, construction, and project oversight for energy generation projects. Responsibilities include developing selection criteria, assessing proposals from consultants and contractors, and ensuring that project documentation is thorough and completed within established timelines and budgets.
Key Responsibilities: As a Lead Project Coordinator, you will serve as the primary liaison among the City of North Vancouver, consultants, construction firms, and other stakeholders to achieve project objectives. Your duties will involve:
- Creating project schedules and financial plans;
- Participating in project committee meetings as a subject matter expert;
- Presenting updates to relevant authorities and reviewing plans for compliance with project standards;
- Maintaining comprehensive records, technical reports, and project specifications;
- Reviewing invoices and change orders for accuracy and recommending actions to management.
The Lead Project Coordinator will oversee the execution of new energy generation projects aimed at significantly reducing carbon emissions. Collaborating with consultant teams, you will ensure compliance with contractual obligations and regulatory standards, mediate disputes regarding contract interpretations, and monitor construction progress. You will also be responsible for developing and implementing sustainable design criteria and ensuring adherence to safety policies and training. Building and maintaining effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders will be essential.
Qualifications: Candidates should possess a degree in a relevant field (e.g., Civil or Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management) along with a professional designation (e.g., P.Eng) and 7 to 12 years of progressive experience in managing complex medium-sized construction projects, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Experience in municipal projects, district energy systems, and a Project Management Professional (PMP) designation are preferred. Strong communication, collaboration, and organizational skills are crucial, as is the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously. A valid Class 5 BC Driver's License is required.

Compensation: The City of North Vancouver offers a competitive remuneration package for this temporary exempt position, including a flexible work schedule and a 35-hour work week. Salary will be commensurate with education, experience, and internal equity.
