Job Title: Program Services Caseworker - Drop In Worker

We are seeking a highly motivated and compassionate Program Services Caseworker - Drop In Worker to join our team at The Salvation Army. Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide a safe and welcoming environment for drop-in clients, ensuring their comfort and dignity at all times.
  • Offer orientation and support to clients, helping them navigate our services and connect with community resources.
  • Develop and implement programming, clubs, and schedules that cater to the needs and interests of drop-in clients.
  • Advise clients of available services and support, both within our center and in the community.
  • Provide housing, health, and social services referrals, connecting clients with the resources they need to succeed.
  • Build relationships with shelter caseworkers to identify potential housing opportunities and referrals.
  • Ensure a safe and healthy work environment, reporting any safety concerns to the Program Services Coordinator.
  • Engage in crisis counseling and one-on-one support, providing brief interventions as needed.
  • Work with high-needs clients, offering individualized support and counseling to help them navigate complex systems.
  • Advocate for clients when necessary, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met.
  • Research and maintain relevant referral sources and programs, ensuring clients have access to the support they need.
  • Conduct regular facility security and maintenance checks, reporting any issues to the Maintenance Request Binder.
  • Collaborate with the Supervisor to supervise clients, ensuring their needs are met and their progress is tracked.
Administrative Responsibilities:
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date client documentation, forms, and logbook entries.
  • Facilitate the commencement of RRTIP for outreach clients, ensuring they receive the support they need.
  • Enter data into HIFIS, tracking client progress and outcomes.
  • Compile and maintain relevant contacts within the systems, ensuring seamless communication and collaboration.
  • Collect and track statistics and other pertinent information for reporting purposes.
  • Receive and record donations according to policy, ensuring our center remains a welcoming and supportive environment.
  • Answer inquiries pertaining to the Drop-in Centre, providing accurate and helpful information to clients and stakeholders.
  • Issue taxi vouchers and transit tickets, recording them according to policy.
  • Record physical facility and building problems in the Maintenance Request Binder.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Program Services Coordinator.
Service Responsibilities:
  • Promote positive and supportive attitudes toward clients experiencing or at risk of homelessness.
  • Empower clients to work towards their goals, providing guidance and support as needed.
  • Act as an advocate and positive role model for clients in the community, ensuring their voices are heard and their needs are met.
  • Represent The Salvation Army and our clients at community meetings, promoting our mission and values.
Organizational Responsibilities:
  • Adhere to The Salvation Army's values and philosophy, ensuring our services are delivered with compassion and respect.
  • Participate fully and constructively in staff meetings and service training, staying up-to-date on best practices and industry developments.
  • Engage in formal evaluation sessions with the Program Services Coordinator, ensuring our services are meeting client needs and expectations.
  • Read and follow the Policy & Procedures Manual and Employee Handbook, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Maintain confidentiality in all matters pertaining to clientele and coworkers, upholding the trust and respect of our clients and community partners.
  • Become familiar with the provision of the position description and operations manual, ensuring a clear understanding of our services and expectations.
  • Make suggestions to improve efficiency, working conditions, or procedures, ensuring our center remains a welcoming and supportive environment.
  • Perform other duties as required, ensuring our services are delivered with compassion and respect.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a permanent full-time position based on 84 hours biweekly.
  • Schedule and shift will be designated by the Program Services Coordinator.
  • Onsite working conditions, including a shelter environment.

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

  • College diploma in Social Sciences field.

Experience and Knowledge:

  • Preference given to experience working with youth homelessness (1-3 years).
  • Knowledge and understanding of Mental Health/Addictions.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of anti-racism, anti-oppression, and equity.
  • Valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and current copy of Driver's abstract (asset).
  • Good knowledge of community resources.

Skills and Capabilities:

  • Problem-solving skills essential, with a high degree of confidentiality required.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, including computer skills (Processing/Desktop, Publishing, Spreadsheet/Graphing, Database).
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good interpersonal and time management skills.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully, providing an original copy of a Background Check with vulnerable sector screening.
  • Ability and willingness to develop an understanding and support for The Salvation Army's mission and purpose in Canada, as related to position responsibilities.
