Laboratory Design Architect

Diamond Schmitt Architects is seeking energetic and enthusiastic design-focused individuals with a minimum of 5 years of experience in laboratory design and 8-10 years of overall architectural experience to join our Toronto or Vancouver offices.

The ideal candidates will possess well-rounded architectural experience and a proven track record in the design and documentation of complex laboratory and healthcare projects. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and the capacity to multitask effectively in a dynamic environment are essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contribute to architectural design, detailing, and documentation on projects in collaboration with project architects and team members.
  • Engage with clients and stakeholders to conceptualize and design a diverse range of laboratory and investigative spaces.
  • Plan and coordinate various laboratory spaces, including wet labs, dry labs, animal labs, and specialized research facilities.
  • Collaborate with engineering and furniture, fixtures, and equipment (FFE) teams to ensure seamless integration of laboratory equipment requirements.
  • Prepare architectural models and drawings using Revit and other modeling software.
  • Undertake additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • A demonstrated commitment to design excellence.
  • A professional degree in Architecture.
  • Advanced training and practical experience in Revit.
  • Proven experience in the planning and documentation of wet bench bioscience laboratories within university, healthcare, or pharmaceutical settings. Contract Administration experience is highly valued.
  • Demonstrated expertise in the planning and documentation of dry bench and analytics laboratories within university, healthcare, or pharmaceutical environments.
  • Experience in the planning and documentation of animal care facilities would be a significant asset.
  • Familiarity with complex room data management systems such as dRofus.
  • Working knowledge of current AutoCAD versions. Experience with modeling software like Rhino, Sketchup, 3D Max, and CS Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator) is highly advantageous.
  • Experience during the contract administration phase of a complex lab environment is considered an asset.
  • Ability to thrive in a collaborative team environment.
  • Fluency in both official languages is a significant advantage.
