In this role, you will report to the Senior Technical Art Director.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Art & Animation Directors, Engineers, and Character Leads to meet visual development and implementation objectives.
  • Develop character prototypes that leverage cutting-edge technologies to achieve aesthetic and performance targets.
  • Work with technical directors to establish character performance standards, troubleshoot, and optimize content efficiency.
  • Assist in creating a seamless character pipeline from Maya to Unreal Engine.
  • Address production challenges by investigating urgent issues and eliminating obstacles.
  • Engage with various teams to enhance character development methodologies and workflows.
  • Produce comprehensive documentation and training resources.

Qualifications:

  • Experience in Unreal Engine with a focus on character development processes, including skeletal mesh management and animation workflows.
  • Strong understanding of human and creature anatomy, proportions, and techniques for creating foundational models and textures.
  • 5+ years of experience with Maya and industry-standard tools for character creation (e.g., Zbrush, Marvelous Designer, Marmoset Toolbag).
  • Expertise in Unreal Materials with an emphasis on character visual development.
  • Solid grasp of PBR principles and proficiency in Substance Designer and Painter.
  • 1+ years of experience with dynamic Cloth & Hair systems and related authoring methods.
  • 1+ years of experience in designing and managing extensive character part systems.
  • Proficient in Python and Mel, with experience in developing and maintaining production tools for artists.
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience in developing and maintaining Maya rigs for game characters.
  • Familiarity with mobile development for iOS/Android platforms.
  • Experience in developing for console platforms (e.g., XB1/XBX/PS4/PS5).

SALARY RANGES

  • British Columbia (varies by location):

o $115,100 - $161,200 CAN Annually

  • California (varies by location):

o $140,700 - $204,700 USD Annually

  • Washington (varies by location):

o $125,300 - $198,100 USD Annually

Base salary is one component of the overall compensation package at Electronic Arts. In the US, we offer a comprehensive benefits package that includes paid time off, sick leave, paid holidays, parental leave, and health insurance options. For British Columbia, we provide similar benefits, including vacation time, sick leave, and additional support for new parents. Certain roles may also be eligible for bonuses and equity options.
