Position Overview

The Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) for Application Support will play a crucial role in the development, maintenance, and execution of Site Reliability Engineering practices across all applications at Royal Bank of Canada (RBC). This position requires collaboration with various teams within the organization to ensure operational excellence. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in application development, support, and technology operations, and will be prepared to engage in production support duties alongside the SRE team across different banking sectors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide production support for applications, including after-hours assistance as necessary.
  • Design and implement SRE solutions such as monitoring systems, alerting mechanisms, machine learning for anomaly detection, and reliability testing.
  • Oversee the production environment by ensuring system availability and maintaining a comprehensive view of overall system health.
  • Develop software and systems to manage infrastructure and applications, enhancing reliability, quality, and speed of software delivery.
  • Participate in incident and problem management processes for relevant applications.
  • Maintain up-to-date technology practices, including server patching and certificate management, with a focus on automation.
  • Guarantee the availability and uptime of applications in alignment with service level objectives.
  • Ensure compliance across all systems and applications, maintaining necessary segregation of duties.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, anomaly detection, and reliability testing for all relevant applications.
  • Support the unit's objectives to adopt automation solutions for applications.
  • Utilize design-thinking and an agile approach when collaborating with SREs, Scrum Masters, and team leads.
  • Continuously update knowledge of technological advancements through formal training and self-directed learning.

Qualifications

Essential Skills

  • At least 2 years of relevant experience in application support, software development (SDLC), and operations (SRE, DevOps, Cloud, Data).
  • In-depth understanding of industry standards, particularly within financial institutions, with a focus on SRE practices.
  • Extensive experience across various environments including Linux, Windows, databases, cloud platforms, and mainframe systems.
  • Ability to automate routine tasks to minimize manual effort and enhance operational efficiency.
  • Proficient in a range of SRE tools and programming languages (e.g., Ansible, Dynatrace, Moogsoft, PagerDuty, ServiceNow, Elastic, Logstash, Kibana, Blue Prism, Catch Point, Grafana).
  • Strong negotiation and stakeholder management capabilities.
  • Exceptional communication skills with a straightforward approach.
  • Experience in consumer banking is advantageous.

Desirable Skills

  • Experience as an SRE in the financial trading sector.
