Department: Therapeutic Recreation Services (Apotex) at Baycrest

Employment Type: Full-Time

Shift Schedule: Day – Evening, including some weekends (subject to change)

Compensation: Hourly Pay Rate: $35.09

Bi-Weekly Hours: 70 Hours, 7 hrs/day

Union Affiliation: OPSEU 595

Leisure activities play a crucial role in enhancing quality of life and promoting well-being. They provide individuals with opportunities for self-determination and the use of personal strengths while engaging in meaningful leisure activities, which are the cornerstone of Therapeutic Recreation services offered throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Apotex Therapeutic Recreation and Culture & Arts teams to design and implement therapeutic programs.
  • Maintain accurate documentation as required.
  • Participate in interprofessional team meetings.
  • Recruit, orient, supervise, and set expectations for volunteers.
  • Contribute to the professional development of the interprofessional team and therapeutic recreation professionals.
  • Coordinate services with other staff and departments.
  • Manage and maintain an inventory of program supplies.

Qualifications:

  • Completion of a two (2) year College Diploma in Recreation or Activation or equivalent is required.
  • A minimum of 1 year of experience in a Recreationist role or equivalent is required.
  • Membership in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario ('TRO') or Activity Professionals of Ontario ('APO') is preferred.
  • Experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating creative recreation programs is preferred.
  • Experience supervising volunteers is preferred.
  • Experience working with a geriatric population with multiple medical conditions and/or cognitive impairments is preferred.
  • Knowledge of community resources is an asset.
  • Familiarity with Jewish culture, Holy Days, and festivals is an asset.
  • Proficiency in a second language, such as Yiddish, Hebrew, Russian, or Hungarian, is an asset.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel is required.
