Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Commercial Underwriter to join our growing team. As an Intermediate Underwriter, you will be responsible for performing risk analysis, handling endorsement requests, and developing professional business partnerships with brokers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Risk Analysis and Underwriting: Perform risk analysis using internal and external data resources to quote, negotiate, and authorize the renewal of existing policies and acceptance of new opportunities for risks of a moderate complexity.
  • Endorsement Requests: Handle endorsement requests within delegated authority, engaging with brokers to clarify intent or seek missing information.
  • Business Development: Develop and support professional business partnerships with brokers by providing prompt service, responding to inquiries, and taking ownership of issues.
  • Decision Making: Make decisions based on imperfect information and communicate decisions in a prompt and professional manner.
  • Relationship Building: Build and maintain positive working relationships with internal and external parties, including attending industry-related seminars and networking events.
  • Coverage Negotiation: Negotiate coverage with brokers within delegated authority parameters.
  • Business Growth: Manage, strengthen, and grow a book of profitable business.
  • Compliance: Maintain compliance with established corporate guidelines and delegated authority parameters.
  • Time Management: Work independently to meet deadlines and accomplish goals.
  • Accountability: Take ownership of work-related activities and follow through on commitments.
  • Pressure Management: Deal effectively with pressure, maintain a positive outlook, and recover quickly from setbacks.
  • Task Prioritization: Prioritize and complete tasks to deliver desired outcomes within allocated time frames.
  • Continuous Learning: Take personal responsibility and action toward learning and implementing new ideas, methods, and technologies.
  • Communication: Demonstrate effective communication and interpersonal skills, both written and verbal.
  • Decision Making: Exhibit good decisional making and analytical skills.
  • Documentation: Document assigned files ensuring completeness, compliance, and quality to meet documentation standards.
  • Loss Reporting: Complete loss reports and post-claim underwriting reviews.
Requirements
  • Experience: At least 2 years of relevant experience in commercial underwriting or 5 years of commercial brokering experience.
  • Designation: Actively working towards an insurance designation (CIP or CAIP preferred).
  • Licensing: Hold a broker license (Level 1 or 2), or can qualify for a license within 90 days.
  • Technical Skills: Can type a minimum of 40 words per minute and have intermediate-level knowledge of Microsoft products, including Outlook, Word, and Excel.
Benefits

The expected salary range for this position is $60,000-$70,000, impacted by factors such as the successful candidate's skills, experience, and working location, as well as the specific position's business line, scope, and level.
