Lead Medical Laboratory Technologist

The Senior Medical Laboratory Technologist plays a crucial role in overseeing and providing technical support within a laboratory section. Reporting to the Charge Technologist or their designate, this position involves supervising laboratory operations and may encompass responsibilities in various programs such as Research and Development, Education, Quality Assurance, and Safety. The incumbent is expected to uphold a secure working environment in line with professional standards and provincial regulations, ensuring adherence to quality assurance protocols and maintaining the benchmarks established by accreditation bodies.
Experience Requirements
- A minimum of three years of relevant experience in a similar role is preferred.
- Experience in a supervisory capacity is advantageous.
- Graduation from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program is required.
- Successful completion of the CMLTM Prior Learning Assessment for a specific discipline may also be considered.
- Advanced educational qualifications (e.g., A.R.T. or B.Sc.) are preferred.
- Participation in relevant courses or seminars is desirable.
- Current registration or eligibility for registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Manitoba (CMLTM) is mandatory.
- Membership in the Canadian Society for Medical Laboratory Science (CSMLS) is considered beneficial.
- Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal, are essential.
- Proficiency in a Windows operating environment is required.
- Experience with Microsoft Office applications is necessary.
- Training in Workplace Health and Safety is preferred.
- Ability to apply technical knowledge for result interpretation, troubleshooting, and method assessment.
- Strong organizational skills to prioritize laboratory duties effectively.
- Demonstrated leadership capabilities are required.
- Must possess the mental and physical stamina to meet job demands.
- Attention to detail in following instructions is crucial.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team.
- Strong analytical skills are necessary.
- Capability to perform under pressure is required.
- Confidentiality must be maintained with all sensitive information.
- Fluency in both French and English may be required.
- Availability for shifts, including weekends and holidays, may be necessary.
- Participation in standby and callback duties may be required.
- Flexibility to rotate through various laboratory workstations as needed.
- Exposure to laboratory hazards is inherent to the role.
