Job SummaryWe are seeking a dynamic Senior Geologist to join our Mine Planning and Geology team at our Ottawa, IL or home-based location. The successful candidate will conduct and manage field geological projects in support of our mining facilities in a cost-effective manner, complete numeric geologic models and written reserve evaluations, and participate in acquisition studies as requested.
Key Responsibilities- Conduct field geological projects and complete reports on geological reserve evaluations on Covia lands, ensuring quality and physical parameters are addressed.
- Log and sample drill holes associated with these projects in a detailed and professional manner, ensuring samples are delivered safely to the laboratory.
- Evaluate the reserve potential of assigned projects using computer software and sound geological science procedures.
- Conduct quality determinations of our deposits using petrographic and binocular microscopes.
- Function as Covia's Qualified Person at assigned plants, completing annual reserve statements and maintaining proper documentation.
- Participate in special task forces, providing geological interpretation and expertise in plant expansion or reserve acquisition studies.
- Complete required reports, including drilling project status updates and annual geology plant reports, in a timely manner.
- Utilize available resources to complete or assist in hydrology investigations and environmental studies as requested.
- Initiate geological research studies at plants to address ore-related quality control issues as requested by the Director MPG.
- Work independently, particularly when the supervisor is not located at the same office.
- Travel extensively.
- Ten years' experience in a Geology role required.
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent in Geology required.
- Master's degree in Geology preferred.
- Strong analytical, verbal, and written communication skills required.
- Experience working with AutoCAD, Hexagon Mine Sight, or Vulcan is a plus.
