Position Overview:

You will be responsible for the development and oversight of pension, retirement, and savings plan strategies for the IGM Group of Companies, which includes Defined Benefit Pension and SERP, Defined Contribution Pensions and SERPs, Group RRSP, and Employee Share Purchase Plan. You will lead the pension committee process and manage partnerships with external vendors. Staying informed on pension plan governance and funding requirements is essential to ensure compliance with provincial regulations.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Streamline processes for managing multiple retirement and savings programs, integrating them with the broader Total Rewards strategy.
  2. Legislative Oversight – as the subject matter expert, monitor and identify emerging developments in legislative, regulatory, or standards changes, assess implications for the organization/industry, and keep key stakeholders informed of developments and the status of ongoing issues. Ensure all regulatory filings are completed accurately and timely, and that plan documents are regularly reviewed and updated.
  3. Pension Committee Management – oversee IGM pension committees, collaborating closely with members and stakeholders to maintain ongoing documentation and a comprehensive record.
  4. Risk Management – utilize actuarial expertise to manage funding valuation requirements for the Defined Benefit pension. Collaborate with key stakeholders in Finance on year-end accounting for DB pension, DB and DC SERPS, and the OPEB, as well as budgeted values for DC pensions, Group RRSP, and ESPP. This includes proxy disclosure where applicable. Monitor and identify emerging risks for all plans, particularly the DB pension, and develop strategies to mitigate risk. Assess ongoing financial implications, including cash flow for the DB pension, and review with external actuaries the impact of CIA, CAPSA, and other changes on funding and accounting values. Lead the annual indexing review and document decisions made.
  5. Vendor Management – work collaboratively with pension partners and vendors to provide recommendations for managing and optimizing the performance of pension plans while effectively communicating with employees.
  6. Develop and implement a communications strategy to ensure plan members are well-informed and understand the retirement programs they participate in, including the impact of their investment choices where applicable.
  7. Collaborate with team members in executing pension, retirement, and savings programs to ensure operationally effective processes are clearly defined, transparent, and support an optimal employee experience.
  8. Strategic Initiatives: Actively participate in or lead strategic initiatives as assigned, which may include redesigning pension and benefit programs or other matters requiring analytical skills.

Qualifications:

  1. 7-10 years of relevant expertise/experience specializing in pensions policy, administration, and governance.
  2. University degree in a related field.
  3. Associate of the Society of Actuaries.
  4. Comprehensive understanding of pension legislation, regulations, financial, and funding requirements.
  5. In-depth knowledge of Defined Benefits pension plans.
  6. Strong consulting and communication skills.
  7. Experience in coaching and mentoring cross-functional team members and leaders.
