About the Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Food Production Worker to join our team at Nova Scotia Health Authority. As a key member of our culinary team, you will be responsible for preparing and serving high-quality meals to our patients, clients, and customers.

Under the direction of the Food Service Supervisor, you will perform routine assigned duties in meal preparation, heating/reheating of food, meal service, cafeteria and catering service, and cleaning related to providing quality, safe, and nutritious food.

You will work in a fast-paced environment, where you will be expected to exhibit sound professional judgment and independent thought while working within the framework of the organization.

The ideal candidate will have a strong commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness, and organizational health.

About You

We are looking for a candidate who possesses the following qualifications:

  • Grade XII or equivalent
  • Minimum one (1) year experience in cooking and food preparation
  • Successful completion of Food Handlers Course within the past five years
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with other staff, clients, and management
  • Willingness to learn, accept direction, and work effectively in a team environment following established policies and procedures
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to follow written and oral instructions
  • Demonstrated ability to use sound professional judgment, initiative, and problem-solving skills
  • Commitment to promoting a culture of respect that supports safety, ethical practices, cultural awareness, and organizational health
  • Physical capabilities to perform duties of the position, including heavy lifting, working flexible hours, withstanding the demands of walking and standing during shifts, and working in an environment with heat and temperature fluctuations
  • Travel between sites will be required
  • Competencies in other languages an asset, French preferred
