Job Title: Associate Physician in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Associate Physician to join our team in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology at BC Children's Hospital. As a key member of our division, you will work closely with our attending pediatric hematology/oncology specialists to provide high-quality patient care and contribute to the growth and development of our program.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Make regular rounds on patients in the inpatient ward with the oncology/hematology Consultants, fellows, residents, nurse practitioners, and other healthcare providers.
  • Work with hematology/oncology Consultants, nurses, pharmacists, dietitians, social workers, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, physician house staff, and other members of the healthcare team in the development and delivery of the overall patient care program.
  • Perform and document admission history and physical examinations, progress notes, discharge summaries, medication reconciliations as per College and organizational standards, policies, and guidelines.
  • Manage the day-to-day care of patients, including writing medical orders in Cerner.
  • Order appropriate investigations and follow-up of results.
  • Arrange consultations with other departments for patient care.
  • Communicate with families, consultant physicians, referring and family physicians concerning patient management plans.
  • Nights and weekends may be included in the work week.
  • Perform procedures within the scope of his/her demonstrated competence, including bone marrow aspiration and biopsy, lumbar puncture, and intrathecal chemotherapy.
  • Participate in quality improvement projects.
  • Provide teaching and supervision for medical students and residents.
  • Attend morbidity and mortality rounds and other QA/QI and educational/research sessions.
  • Comply with Associate Physician programs CPD reporting requirements.
Qualifications:
  • Medical degree from a school listed in the World Directory of Medical Schools.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of accredited postgraduate training in Pediatric Hematology/Oncology, verified by the College of Physicians and Surgeons of British Columbia (CPSBC).
  • Successful completion of Part 1 of the Medical Council of Canada Qualifying Examination (MCCQE) or Steps 1 through 3 of the United States Medical Licensing Examinations (USMLEs).
  • Must meet the CPSBC's English language proficiency requirements.
  • Must be eligible for registration with the CPSBC in the Associate Physician class.
  • Have Canadian Citizenship, be a permanent resident, or be legally able to live and work in British Columbia.
  • Must be able to perform within the scope of Associate Physician duties and responsibilities.
