About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Bioinformatics Analyst to join our Laboratory Medicine Program at the University Health Network. As a key member of our team, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the future of laboratory medicine.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide expertise in processing large genomics and biomedical data sets, with a focus on next-generation sequencing (NGS) data analysis.
  • Develop and maintain databases and graphical user interfaces (GUIs) to support laboratory functions, adhering to hospital and departmental mission and value statements while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Process and analyze clinical NGS data sets, including DNA and RNA analysis, to support diagnostic and research efforts.
  • Develop and maintain existing clinical pipelines and identify new tools and methods for NGS data analysis.
  • Support the clinical laboratory through providing reports, result analysis, methods, and code development, as well as proper documentation.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Bioinformatics, or Biology, with a Master's degree preferred.
  • Knowledge of bioinformatics, with an emphasis on genome sequence analysis and gene annotation, and a background in biology, genetics, and statistics.
  • Experience with bioinformatics resources, databases, tools, and common standard formats.
  • Experience developing and implementing pipelines for processing large genomics and biomedical data sets.
  • Proficiency in Linux, version control (git), and writing scripts in Python and R.
  • Experience with full-stack development, databases, frameworks, and APIs.
  • Effective oral and written communication, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
  • Familiarity with high-performance computing (HPC) environments and running applications in HPC clusters is highly desirable.
  • Experience with Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) system development and implementation is an asset.
