Position Overview

Ontario Power Generation Inc. is seeking a proactive, strategic, and results-oriented individual to fill the role of Lead Cybersecurity Advisor.

Reporting directly to the Section Head of Information Systems, this role is pivotal in delivering security guidance, solutions, and consulting services to essential stakeholders throughout the organization, aimed at acquiring and deploying technological solutions and/or services.

This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in initiatives that enhance OPG's public engagement and educational outreach, reflecting the company's dedication to fostering its social license.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Educate stakeholders on intricate cybersecurity challenges to foster alignment and enhance overall awareness.
  • Cultivate and sustain vital relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Stay informed about external threats, technological advancements, and shifts in the business landscape.
  • Propose innovative solutions to technical and procedural obstacles.
  • Participate in the evaluation of security exception processes.
  • Assist projects in establishing secure and robust controls.
  • Serve as the cybersecurity single point of contact (SPOC) for initiatives led by the Office of the Chief Information Security Officer, providing security requirements, guidance, and decision-making as necessary.
  • Review and endorse technical modifications while supporting the Chief Information Officer (CIO) functions as the Security Subject Matter Expert.
  • Develop security protocols and procedures, including Threat Risk Assessments (TRA), to ensure ongoing evaluation of changes within the Ontario Power Generation (OPG) operational and technical environment, along with documentation of security assessment performance. Conduct comprehensive TRA's on Applications, Systems, and Cloud services.
  • Demonstrate a solid understanding of risk-based methodologies, balancing organizational needs against potential security threats.
  • Offer cost-effective and efficient strategies for risk management.
  • Collaborate with various stakeholders and project teams to ensure the successful implementation of security architecture, policies, and standards to mitigate security risks.
  • Provide security advisory and consulting services to key stakeholders for the acquisition and implementation of technological solutions and/or services.
  • Additional Responsibilities as Required

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as computer science, along with an additional year of focused study in cybersecurity.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 4 years, with up to 6 years of experience in Cybersecurity architecture and design.
  • Experience working with a diverse team of cybersecurity professionals, encompassing areas such as Application Security, vulnerability management, Data Security, and Identity Access Management (IAM).
  • Ability to effectively communicate, engage, and influence business and operational stakeholders and partners.
  • Proficient in problem-solving through research on cybersecurity criteria, security systems, vendor products, and validation processes.
  • Understanding of enterprise and security architecture, with the ability to create technical documentation and presentations.
  • Familiarity with frameworks such as NIST, ISO 27000 series, and GDPR.
  • Advanced knowledge of computer science and cybersecurity, including a deep understanding of security best practices, risks, and technologies, along with solutions to address those risks.
  • Practical experience in security analysis and problem-solving to deliver effective consulting services to stakeholders.
  • Experience in recognizing security threats, risks, and potential countermeasures.
  • Staying current on developments regarding security threats and best practices to contribute to effective implementation strategies and outcomes concerning technologies and services.
  • Knowledge acquired through security training organizations, such as ISC2, SANS, and ISACA, to provide sound advice and consultation on security technology and service matters to stakeholders, ensuring compliance with OPG security requirements.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively convey information to others.
