Position Overview
The Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences is seeking a qualified psychologist to deliver psychological services within the Forensic Psychiatric Rehabilitation Unit. In this role, you will collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to conduct evidence-based clinical evaluations, including psychoeducation and diagnostic assessments, as well as provide treatment focused on short-term stabilization.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage in consultation with team members from various disciplines.
- Supervise psychology students and guide their professional development.
- Initiate and participate in research initiatives aimed at quality improvement and program evaluation.
This position is part of the Forensics Program, which includes:
- A Secure Forensic Service with three units dedicated to assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation for patients mandated by the courts or the Ontario Review Board (ORB) requiring higher security accommodations.
- A General Forensic Service comprising three units that provide similar services for patients needing lower security levels.
- A Forensic Outpatient Service offering assessment, treatment, and rehabilitation for community-residing patients under court or ORB orders.
Additionally, this role involves community engagement related to the Forensic Specialty Dual Diagnosis Program.
Qualifications
- A Doctoral degree in psychology is required, with a preference for candidates possessing three years of clinical or research experience in severe and persistent mental illness.
- Registration with the College of Psychologists of Ontario is essential, with consideration for candidates holding a certificate for autonomous or supervised practice.
- Proven ability to work effectively within an interdisciplinary team, particularly with transitional populations.
- Experience in delivering, teaching, and supervising evidence-based psychotherapies is crucial.
- Strong oral and written communication skills, along with excellent interpersonal abilities, are necessary for success in this dynamic team environment.
- A demonstrated interest in academic activities, including teaching psychology interns and conducting independent research relevant to the Forensic Program's objectives.
- Commitment to implementing and exemplifying the Recovery philosophy in all aspects of care.
- Proficiency in computer applications is required, with Meditech experience preferred.
