Role Summary
The successful candidate will be responsible for performing venipuncture and ECG procedures on inpatients across UHN's Rehabilitation and Complex Care facilities. As part of the Laboratory Medicine Program, recognized as Canada's largest hospital diagnostic laboratory, you will contribute to a high-volume environment that processes over 30 million tests annually. Your role will be integral in supporting clinical, educational, and research initiatives within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct venipuncture, ECG, and Holter Monitor Hook-up procedures on inpatients.
  • Organize and manage the transport of biological specimens.
  • Deliver patient-centered care with a focus on quality and safety.
  • Utilize hospital information systems for documentation and procedure tracking.
  • Assist in training and mentoring new staff members.
  • Maintain inventory of supplies and ensure adequate stock levels.
  • Comply with infection prevention and control protocols to ensure a safe working environment.

Required Qualifications

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Graduation from a recognized Laboratory Technician or Laboratory Assistant program.
  • Preferred: OSMT or CSMLS certification.
  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience in a laboratory setting.
  • At least one year of recent experience in venipuncture, ECG, and specimen management.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety standards in a laboratory context.
  • Proficient in Windows-based applications.
  • Capacity to perform accurately under pressure.
