Position Overview:
The Royal Mental Health Centre is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Registered Practical Nurse to provide exceptional nursing care to patients with psychiatric and mental health needs.
Duties:
- Deliver supportive nursing care tailored to the treatment and rehabilitation goals of patients.
- Assist in evaluating patients' needs and contribute to the formulation, execution, and assessment of individualized nursing care plans in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team.
- Administer nursing services as required, supporting patients with daily living activities and personal care.
- Ensure a safe and therapeutic environment, including managing crises and providing emergency nursing care.
- Administer medications and perform treatments within the full scope of practice as per applicable regulations and standards.
- Maintain accurate documentation of data collection, care planning, implementation, and evaluation in line with professional standards.
- Work collaboratively with Registered Nurses to effectively navigate rapidly changing clinical situations.
- Foster and maintain effective therapeutic relationships among staff, patients, and their families.
- Identify and respond promptly to patient needs.
- Enhance patient function, participation, and autonomy in their recovery journey.
- Stay informed about program policies, procedures, relevant legislation, and best practices in mental health.
- Adhere to the vision and values of The Royal, along with relevant policies and procedures.
- Meet the standards set by the College of Nurses of Ontario for Registered Practical Nurses.
- Promote a workplace environment that aligns with The Royal's commitment to anti-racism, harassment, and discrimination-free practices.
- Engage in continuous learning and professional development.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Graduate from an accredited Diploma Program in Practical Nursing.
- Current registration as a Registered Practical Nurse with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- At least two years of recent experience working with adults facing psychiatric or mental health challenges is preferred.
- Familiarity with CNO Standards regarding the scope of practice for RPNs.
- Ability to perform comprehensive nursing functions across all units.
- Certification in CPR and First Aid.
- Completion of WHMIS and Fire training within the last year.
- Knowledge of the Mental Health Act, Health Care Consent Act, and Substitute Decision Act.
- Successful completion of a Criminal Reference Check for vulnerable sectors.
- Proven ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary treatment team.
- Completion of training in the Prevention of Violence in the Workplace is required.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development.
- Willingness to complete Safety and Security in the Workplace Training if not already certified.
- Possession of a valid driver's license.
- English proficiency at level A- is mandatory in all aspects of communication; bilingualism is an asset.
Salary Range: $35.36 to $37.05 per hour
