Position: Sample Preparation Technician

Reports to: Sample Preparation Supervisor

Contract Type: Temporary

Role Overview:

Under the supervision of the Sample Preparation Manager and with guidance from the Sample Prep Supervisor and/or Shift Lead Hand, the Sample Preparation Technician is responsible for the meticulous preparation of client samples for analytical procedures.

Key Responsibilities:

The primary duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Prepare geological samples through crushing, pulverizing, or sieving in accordance with established Standard Operating Procedures, ensuring adherence unless otherwise authorized.
  • Ensure efficient and precise processing of incoming samples based on priority.
  • Document quality control checks during sample preparation and halt production when non-compliance is identified.
  • Operate and maintain equipment, notifying the Supervisor of any required maintenance.
  • Adhere to occupational health and safety regulations, company policies, and relevant ISO standards.
  • Act professionally and safely, wearing the necessary personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Provide constructive feedback to the Lead-Hand or Supervisor regarding potential improvements in the work area.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience with heavy equipment is advantageous.
  • Proficient in English, both verbal and written.
  • Strong organizational and time management abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Capable of performing physically demanding tasks, including lifting.
  • Able to lift weights up to 40 lbs during shifts.
  • Comfortable working independently as well as part of a team.

Working Environment:

This role involves a high level of productivity in a fast-paced laboratory setting, which may include repetitive tasks. It requires patience, tenacity, and flexibility in working hours, including potential overtime and shift work. The position may involve prolonged standing and handling of hazardous materials, following established safety protocols.
