Work Setting

As a technician, you will be working within a telecommunications company.

Key Responsibilities
  • Install and maintain both aerial and underground telephone systems.
  • Conduct tests on equipment to identify transmission faults.
  • Complete and maintain accurate test and service reports.
  • Diagnose the nature, cause, and location of issues.
  • Climb and work at heights using poles, ladders, or other support structures.
  • Manage cable outlets, including connecting, disconnecting, and relocating them.
  • Determine work assignments effectively.
  • Install cable modems and necessary software for Internet connectivity.
  • Repair or replace defective cables, power supplies, and amplifiers.
  • Splice, join, and connect various wires.
  • Repair or replace faulty telephone equipment.
Certifications and Training
  • Training for working at heights.
  • First Aid Certification.
Equipment Proficiency
  • Experience with coaxial lines, fibre optics, and copper wiring.
  • Familiarity with aerial and underground cable lines, cable outlets, converters, and splitters.
Safety and Security
  • Must be bondable and possess basic security clearance.
  • Criminal record check and driver's validity license check are required.
Transportation Requirements
  • Valid driver's license and own transportation are necessary.
  • Willingness to travel, with travel expenses covered by the employer.
  • Ability to travel for extended periods.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to meet tight deadlines and maintain attention to detail.
  • Capable of performing repetitive tasks and distinguishing between colors.
  • Combination of sitting, standing, and walking is required.
  • Physically demanding tasks including bending, crouching, and kneeling.
  • Manual dexterity is essential.
Tools and Equipment
  • Must provide own tools, including steel-toed safety boots, hard hat, safety glasses/goggles, and safety harness.
