Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Tutor/Teacher to join our team at Sylvan Learning - Kelowna, BC. As a Tutor/Teacher, you will be responsible for creating a positive and engaging learning experience for students by teaching them using Sylvan program materials.

Key Responsibilities
  • Instructional Delivery: Prepare for each instructional session, gather and prepare materials as needed, and deliver instruction to students according to the design of the Sylvan programs.
  • Student Engagement: Greet students, initiate instruction, and personally engage each student to ensure a positive learning experience.
  • Progress Evaluation: Evaluate and record the progress of each student on their program assignment, and communicate this progress to Center staff.
  • Classroom Management: Manage students, tasks, and time to create a balanced and robust instructional session.
  • Student Motivation: Use praise and encouragement to ensure students are engaged and inspired to learn, and motivate students with Sylvan tokens given for specific achievements.
  • Record Keeping: Record and track tokens earned by students, and manage the completion of learning log and transition activities.
  • Communication: Communicate specific student needs to Center staff, and attend periodic staff meetings and complete ongoing training as needed.
Requirements
  • Language Arts and Study Skills Program Teachers: Four-year degree or equivalent required, state or provincial teaching credentials (current or expired), and minimum of one or two years of teaching experience preferred.
  • Math Program Teachers: Four-year degree required in a discipline requiring 3 or more years of college-level math.
  • SAT/ACT, Test Prep, and Advanced Reading Skills Teachers: Four-year degree or equivalent preferred.
  • General Skills: Knowledge of general office equipment such as copiers, printers, and office phones, and knowledge of tablet computers preferred.
