Role and Facility Overview

Northern Health is in search of dedicated Child & Youth Psychiatrists. This role offers a unique chance to tailor your practice around specific interests in child and adolescent psychiatry, which may include assessments, crisis intervention, ongoing care, pediatric client collaboration, psychotherapy, and addiction treatment. The selected professionals will contribute to the regional program of the Adolescent Psychiatric Assessment Unit, which consists of 6 beds, and will engage in both inpatient and outpatient care settings. Northern Health has developed an innovative model of Primary Care Teams, allowing psychiatrists to work alongside inter-professional teams to enhance patient mental health outcomes. The department is also involved in the education of medical students, family practice residents, and psychiatry residents. On-call duties are minimal, typically once a week or less, and are generally scheduled in 12-hour shifts.

The University Hospital of Northern British Columbia (UHNBC) serves as the Regional Hospital for Northern BC, catering to the local population and acting as a referral center for surrounding communities. It is the primary teaching facility for medical students in the Northern Medical Program of UBC and provides training for UBC Residents across various specialties. The hospital's Cancer Centre, which opened in 2012, offers Radiation and Medical Oncology services. The ongoing evolution of UHNBC as a Regional Center and educational institution presents an exciting opportunity to engage with the medical community.

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation Type: Combination

Estimated Remuneration: $350,000+/-

Incentives and Additional Benefits

Eligible for further remuneration under the Rural Subsidiary Agreement (RSA), which may include:

  • Retention Premium: 12.6%
  • Retention Flat Fee: $19,526
  • Relocation Funding: $9,000-15,000
  • Recruitment Incentive: $15,000
  • Additional Benefits: $15,000 for relocations from outside Canada; $12,000 for relocations from outside BC; $9,000 for relocations within BC.
