Job Title: Inclusion Support Teacher

School District #8 (Kootenay Lake) is a dynamic and diverse community located in the southern Interior of British Columbia, Canada. We serve a range of communities, including Kaslo, Meadow Creek, Crawford Bay, Creston, Wynndel, Yahk, Nelson, Salmo, South Slocan, Winlaw, Slocan, and surrounding rural areas.

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Inclusion Support Teacher to join our team. The successful candidate will provide invaluable assistance to classroom teachers to determine in-class and supplemental supports to accommodate students' varied learning needs.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to implement universal in-class strategies for students with diverse learning needs
  • Work with the school-based resource team to determine best ways to provide targeted essential supports to small groups and individual students
  • Help classroom teachers understand and implement competency-based goals and objectives in Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) in an inclusive environment
  • Develop and maintain rapport with students, staff, and parents in a welcoming manner
  • Collaborate with colleagues, students, parents, and District staff to support students with diverse learning needs
Requirements:
  • Valid BC certification through the BC-TRB
  • Masters' Degree or Diploma in Special Education/Inclusive Education
  • Bachelors' of Education Degree (or K-12)
  • Successful experience teaching at the Elementary or Secondary level (ideally at both)
  • Successful completion of two university Level B assessment courses with the ability to administer Level B assessments
Desirable Qualifications:
  • Training and experience with augmentative technology, medical supports, and personal care
  • Understanding of accessible environments
  • Experience in administering Level B assessments
  • Experience working with a School-Based Team
