Position Overview:

We are seeking a proficient bilingual legal assistant to join our corporate, real estate, and financial services division. This role is based in our Montréal office and involves collaboration with our team of legal professionals. The successful candidate will report to the Managing Director and will play a vital role in supporting our real estate and banking/financial services practices.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough searches across various public databases, including but not limited to REQ, Corporations Canada, RDPRM, and Land Registry.
  • Analyze property titles and other research findings, compiling comprehensive reports and summary tables.
  • Draft and prepare legal documents pertinent to banking law, such as mortgages and assignments, ensuring proper registration with relevant authorities.
  • Coordinate and manage access to information requests from governmental bodies.
  • Research zoning regulations and liaise with municipal authorities, providing detailed reports on zoning matters.
  • Engage with title insurance providers and review associated policies.
  • Prepare various legal documents related to real estate transactions, including deeds of sale and notices of lease.
  • Analyze security documentation for publication purposes.
  • Assist in drafting transaction-related documents, such as management certificates and closing agendas.
  • Perform any additional duties as required in support of the team.

Qualifications:

  • Fluency in both English and French is essential, with a strong emphasis on written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • A Diploma of College Studies (D.E.C.) in legal techniques or a law certificate is required.
  • 4 to 7 years of experience as a legal assistant in a real estate and financial services context.
  • Proficient in MS Office and other relevant software applications.
  • Exceptional organizational and communication abilities, with a knack for multitasking.
  • Strong capability to prioritize tasks and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while adapting to a dynamic team environment.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and the capacity to handle multiple tasks efficiently.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, confidentiality, and a customer-oriented approach.
