We are seeking a highly skilled Site Reliability Engineer to join our team at Lyft in Montreal. As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will play a critical role in ensuring the reliability and scalability of our production systems, platforms, and tools.
Key Responsibilities- Define the team's roadmap and architecture based on technological and business needs.
- Design and implement efficient infrastructure abstractions that accelerate our application teams.
- Be responsible for the design, development, deployment, monitoring, operation, and maintenance of existing or new system infrastructure elements.
- Build a holistic visibility on SLIs, SLOs, SLAs, dependency graphs, past software, network, and system performance to ensure we can continue to evolve without increasing operational load or repetitive work.
- Apply fundamental site reliability engineering principles, such as change management, monitoring, incident response, capacity planning, and pre-production reviews, to manage the platform.
- Take a step back to observe trends and develop innovative tools and automations to minimize repetitive work. Use these learnings to promote excellent operational practices.
- Collaborate with the broader Lyft organization to establish a rigorous learning culture from incidents.
- Unlock, support, and effectively communicate between teams to achieve results.
- Have a good understanding and the ability to explain the different trade-offs made in decisions.
- Share your knowledge by giving informal presentations, technical conferences, and advocating for appropriate technologies and best practices in engineering.
- More than 5 years of experience in the software engineering/production infrastructure industry.
- Experience in designing, debugging, and operating large-scale distributed systems and fault-tolerant systems.
- Experience with high-level programming languages (Python, Go, Java, etc.).
- Experience working with public cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure, etc.).
- Experience in deploying large-scale software.
- Experience with common CI tools (Jenkins, Buildkite, CircleCI, TeamCity), and mastery of at least one of these tools is an asset.
- Experience working with databases, relational or NoSQL, is an asset.
- Experience in Linux system administration, or familiarity with managing a fleet of Linux servers, is an asset.
- Must be fluent in English spoken and written and be at least willing to learn French if necessary.
