Job Overview

The primary objective of this role is to uphold the parking regulations for vehicles both on and off the streets within the jurisdiction of the City of Grand Rapids.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

This job description aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the significant duties and responsibilities expected from employees in this position. Employees may be required to undertake job-related tasks beyond those specifically outlined here.

  • Inspects parked vehicles; identifies and assesses those that are in violation of parking regulations on designated routes; recognizes infractions and issues citations.
  • Monitors and reports malfunctioning meters, obstructions on sidewalks and roadways, and any damaged or missing signage.
  • Addresses customer inquiries, resolves public complaints when feasible, and disseminates information.
  • Provides testimony in court regarding disputed parking citations; presents photographic evidence and responds to inquiries.
  • Confirms license plates of offenders using a handheld device to check if vehicles are on the scofflaw list due to repeated violations; arranges for the towing of vehicles as necessary.
  • Maintains assigned tools and supplies, including handheld citation devices, printers, paper, and envelopes.
  • Operates a motor vehicle as part of job duties.
  • Reports any observed issues that may affect public safety and order.
  • Performs related tasks as needed.

Required Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • No prior experience necessary
  • Any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience that provides the necessary skills and knowledge

Required Licenses or Certifications

  • Valid driver's license from the state of Michigan

Important Note : This position necessitates extensive walking (approximately 10-15 miles daily) in various weather conditions.
