Job Title: Production Manager

The Production Manager is a key role at Tarpin Lumber Incorporated, responsible for overseeing all aspects of the truss manufacturing process. This includes ensuring efficient and high-quality production that meets customer demands and company goals.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversee daily production operations to ensure timely and efficient overall production.
  • Develop and maintain production schedules based on customer orders, material availability, and production capacity.
  • Allocate resources (labor, machinery, materials) efficiently to meet deadlines while minimizing downtime.
  • Coordinate with sales, purchasing, and engineering teams to ensure alignment between production capacity and customer demand.
  • Ensure all products meet quality standards and specifications.
Leadership and Team Management:
  • Oversee the performance, training, and development of production staff, ensuring employees are skilled and knowledgeable about their tasks.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of production supervisors and workers, fostering a culture of teamwork and continuous improvement.
  • Manage work shifts and personnel assignments to ensure adequate staffing.
  • Foster a positive work environment that encourages teamwork, safety, and productivity.
Safety and Compliance:
  • Ensure compliance with safety standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Implement and enforce safety protocols to ensure safe work instructions are followed on the production floor.
  • Regularly inspect equipment and the production environment for potential safety hazards.
  • Conduct safety training and audits regularly.
Quality Control:
  • Ensure all jobs consistently meet Tarpin's internal quality standards and comply with TPIC and CWTA NQS.
  • Address any quality-related issues quickly and efficiently to avoid costly rework or delays.
  • Identify and resolve production issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Implement root cause analysis for recurring problems and develop long-term solutions.
  • Liaise with maintenance teams to ensure equipment is properly maintained and operational.
Production Efficiency and Continuous Improvement:
  • Monitor production performance through Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) such as output, downtime, and waste.
  • Identify inefficiencies in the production process and implement solutions to improve workflow, reduce waste, and lower costs.
  • Lead initiatives for lean manufacturing or other process improvement strategies.
  • Ability to develop flexible staffing plans that adapt to fluctuating customer demands.
  • Monitor and analyze production data to identify trends and areas for improvement.
Inventory and Material Management:
  • Manage inventory of raw materials, such as lumber, fasteners, and plates, hangers, ensuring sufficient stock levels for production without overstocking.
  • Coordinate with suppliers to ensure timely delivery of materials and avoid production interruptions.
  • Optimize the use of materials to reduce waste and reduce costs.
Equipment Maintenance:
  • Ensure that machinery and equipment are maintained and in good working order.
  • Identify and resolve production issues promptly to minimize downtime.
  • Work with maintenance to establish and execute a preventive maintenance program to avoid unplanned downtime.
Problem Solving and Conflict Resolution:
  • Address issues that arise during production, such as equipment breakdowns, staffing shortages, or material supply problems.
  • Promote teamwork and collaboration across shifts and among all staff members.
Reporting and Communication:
  • Provide regular updates to senior management on production progress, challenges, and potential improvements.
  • Communicate effectively with other departments (e.g., engineering, sales) to align production efforts with company goals.
Cost Management:
  • Establish and develop annual budgets for the plant.
  • Monitor production costs, including labor, materials, and overhead, to ensure the plant operates within budget.
  • Identify opportunities for cost savings and work to improve plant profitability.

Working Conditions:

  • The work environment requires employees to work both inside and outside.
  • The environment generally includes dust, dirt, equipment noise; working near moving machinery. PPE required at all times.

30-40

Minimum Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a production management role, preferably in the truss or building materials industry.

Preferred Education Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in manufacturing, Engineering, Business Administration, or a related field.

Required Skills:

  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills, and analytical mindset.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
  • Knowledge of production processes, quality control, and safety regulations.
  • Proficient in using production management software and MS Office Suite.

Physical Requirements:

While some parts of the role are managerial, the job may require walking around the production floor, inspecting equipment, and even some lifting or hands-on troubleshooting.
