Digital Design Engineer for Cutting-Edge AI Hardware

Lightmatter is revolutionizing artificial intelligence computing with its groundbreaking optical chip technology. We are seeking a talented and passionate Digital Design Engineer to join our team of world-class engineers and scientists in developing the next generation of AI accelerators.

As a Digital Design Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing innovative compute accelerators that seamlessly integrate with our photonic technology. You will collaborate closely with architects, software engineers, verification engineers, and physical design engineers to create high-performance, low-power designs for advanced technology nodes.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop microarchitecture designs and RTL for advanced ML/AI accelerator ASICs/SoCs, encompassing sophisticated memory systems and high-performance NoC architectures.
  • Deeply understand and integrate silicon photonic communication and compute technology into digital accelerator designs.
  • Actively collaborate with Architecture, Design Verification, Implementation, Photonic, Analog, and Software teams to realize high-performance, low-power designs in cutting-edge technology nodes.
  • Create comprehensive design specifications and documentation to facilitate seamless collaboration with partner teams.
  • Manage RTL implementation to ensure functionally correct, high-performing designs within project schedules by identifying, communicating, and mitigating potential risks.
Requirements:
  • Proven experience in ASIC design with multiple successful tape outs.
  • 8 years of relevant experience with a Bachelor's degree or 6 years and a Master's degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering (or related fields).
  • Strong familiarity with high-speed digital design techniques.
  • Solid understanding of power-efficient digital design techniques.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with communication protocols (e.g., PCIe).
  • Familiarity with memory systems (e.g., HBM/DDR5).
  • Knowledge of processor design, accelerators, and/or memory hierarchies.
  • Understanding of machine learning algorithms.
