The Opportunity

Manulife Insurance Malaysia is expanding its Global Data Governance team and is seeking a seasoned professional to help enhance the function and promote the adoption of our data governance and data quality framework, best practices, and supporting technologies throughout the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive the global data governance agenda to foster trust and maximize the use of data
  • Collaborate on the continuous improvement of the global data quality framework; promote its adoption by creating playbooks, accelerators, and training for relevant stakeholders in data quality principles
  • Assist leaders in data governance roles across the organization to elevate their data literacy and understanding of data governance and quality practices
  • Engage with stakeholders at various organizational levels to guide them in identifying critical data elements and establishing metrics that connect data quality to business value
  • Perform hands-on data analysis to resolve high-priority data quality challenges, from issue identification through root cause analysis to resolution
  • Implement global data governance metrics and oversight mechanisms to ensure the achievement of target outcomes through the Data Governance program
  • In collaboration with Technology teams, support the adoption of data quality technology in the Azure Cloud environment and for on-premises applications
  • Act as a liaison between the Global Data Governance team and our Segment Data offices, Data Owners, and Control Partners (Information Risk Management, Compliance, Privacy, Legal) to ensure that data quality requirements are clearly defined, captured, and communicated
  • Encourage innovative thinking and contribute to advancements in data governance practices at Manulife; monitor emerging and existing data governance technologies and present significant developments to leadership

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in data governance and data management within a large multinational organization
  • A degree in computer science, engineering, or a related technology or quantitative field
  • Experience with data governance tools such as Purview, Collibra, or Informatica
  • Experience in a complex, large-scale organization; experience in the financial and insurance sectors is preferred
  • Strong communication skills, capable of tailoring messages for both technical and business audiences
  • Expertise in data governance concepts and technologies, with hands-on experience using leading data quality software and data visualization tools at scale
  • Familiarity with foundational data architecture concepts and cloud technologies is advantageous
  • Strong problem-solving skills, able to facilitate teams united by a common goal in a matrixed organizational structure
  • Practical experience in data wrangling, analytics, and dashboard design; knowledge of AI/ML technologies is a plus
