Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Smart Grid Engineer to join our team at Rodan Energy Solutions. As a key member of our grid technology section, you will be responsible for assessing, developing, and enhancing new and existing technologies used to support the efficient operations of our distribution grid.

Key Responsibilities
  • Identify and develop solutions that enhance the use of Grid Technology systems and applications
  • Provide technical support to the Grid Technology Support, stations, and distribution field staff
  • Evaluate and manage new Grid Technology projects
  • Create analysis workflows and associated business processes for the benefit of customer departments
  • Assist in setting strategic direction for Grid Technology systems and applications
  • Participate in the development of our Company's smart grid roadmap
  • Support the development and use of data analytics to improve grid efficiency and maximize distribution asset life
  • Work co-operatively with other technology teams to enhance system and application functionality, availability, and security
  • Prepare budget briefs for projects and participate in overall budget and business planning processes
  • Provide input into system planning and distribution system standards and technology standards
  • Evaluate new technology, software, and equipment
  • Assist with managing and coordinating the successful completion of special projects as required
Requirements
  • Undergraduate degree in Engineering from an accredited university (Electrical Engineering is strongly preferred)
  • Professional Engineer, licensed or able to be licensed in the province of Ontario (P.Eng.)
  • Strong computer skills; proficient in the use of office productivity and collaboration tools, preferably G Suite
  • Recent grads with 4+ years' experience with EIT or P.Eng.
  • Those with data or manufacturing experience
  • Some vacancies require IT oriented candidates with applications engineering experience and also experience with on-premise systems used in Operations Technology, and Operations Technology Applications
Assets
  • Project Management and/or PMP Certification considered an asset
  • Experience with advanced grid applications (SCADA, ADMS, OMS, GIS) considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Fibre Optic communications technology (including planning and management) considered an asset
  • Knowledge of wireless communications technology (LTE, fixed point-to-point, point-to-multipoint) considered an asset
  • Experience in an electric utility engineering environment considered an asset
  • English essential, both oral and written; Bilingual (French/English) considered an asset
