Position Overview

The Dental Assistant plays a crucial role in supporting the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery Department, ensuring smooth daily operations under the guidance of the Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon and Health Services Manager. This position is integral to delivering safe and effective care to patients undergoing outpatient oral surgical procedures.

Key Responsibilities

The responsibilities of the Dental Assistant include:

  • Assisting in surgical procedures to ensure optimal patient care.
  • Maintaining a sterile and organized workspace in compliance with infection control standards.
  • Performing radiographic imaging, including exposing and developing x-rays.
  • Taking alginate impressions for dental procedures.
  • Conducting intraoral and extraoral photography for documentation and analysis of surgical cases.
Qualifications

Ideal candidates will possess the following qualifications:

  • Completion of an accredited Dental Assistant program.
  • Current registration as a Dental Assistant in Nova Scotia.
  • A minimum of one year of experience as a Registered Dental Assistant.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Proficiency in additional languages is an asset, with a preference for French.
Work Schedule
  • This is a Casual Relief Position.
Compensation

The hourly wage for this position is $27.89. Additionally, this role may qualify for a Market Adjustment, which is reviewed periodically.
