Overview
The Director of Public Relations and Community Engagement plays a pivotal role in shaping and executing a comprehensive strategy that enhances the organization's brand presence across various markets. This position reports directly to the Chief Marketing Officer and is responsible for aligning public relations and community outreach initiatives with the organization's strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Media Relations Management: Oversee the public relations program to strengthen the organization's reputation and build trust with key stakeholders. Serve as a spokesperson when necessary and assist in managing crisis communications.
- Internal Communication Development: Collaborate with internal teams to ensure consistent messaging and alignment across all departments.
- Stakeholder Communication: Provide updates on community engagement efforts, media relations, and corporate philanthropy to both internal and external audiences.
- Strategic Communication Planning: Develop and implement communication strategies that support broader marketing initiatives and organizational goals.
- Content Creation: Produce high-quality written materials, including press releases, articles, and briefings, translating complex information into clear and engaging content.
- Community Engagement Leadership: Propose and implement community-focused programs, partnerships, and events that align with the organization's mission.
- Cross-Department Collaboration: Work with various departments to develop communication strategies for events and services, manage recognition programs, and participate in special initiatives.
- Team Management: Lead a team of communications and public relations specialists, ensuring effective internal communications and community involvement.
All activities must adhere to organizational policies and regulatory standards. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor's Degree in strategic communications, public relations, journalism, or a related field is required; an advanced degree is preferred.
- 8+ years of experience in community relations, strategic communications, or public relations is essential.
- Experience as a spokesperson is required.
- A minimum of 5 years in a leadership role within a communications team.
- Proven ability to apply brand guidelines across various communication platforms.
- Proficiency in relevant software tools.
- Willingness to work flexible hours for special events as needed.
- Ability to lift moderate weights and travel as required.
