The Department of Oceanography at Dalhousie University is seeking a distinguished researcher to fill the Tier 1 Canada Research Chair in Ocean Particle Fluxes. This prestigious position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to the quantitative understanding of the effects of particle fluxes on global element cycles, with a particular focus on the carbon cycle.
Research FocusThe successful candidate will be expected to develop an ambitious research program that addresses one or both of the following areas:
- Reducing uncertainty in the climate carbon budget by quantifying sedimentary carbon fluxes and researching how they are linked to past and projected future climate change.
- Informing ocean-based climate change mitigation by guiding societal measures to protect and enhance the sedimentary carbon removal potential of key ecosystems.
Research focus may include particle fluxes in open ocean or in carbon-rich coastal marine ecosystems, or in other relevant ocean environments.

RequirementsThe successful candidate will be a mid to late career researcher with a strong record in conducting and leading world-class research. They will be expected to contribute to the supervision of graduate students and the undergraduate and graduate curriculum of the department.
What We OfferThe successful applicant will have access to research support from the Ocean Frontier Institute (OFI), which brings together elite researchers and institutes from across the globe to tackle complex ocean challenges. They will also have access to state-of-the-art laboratory space at Dalhousie University.
