A Typical Day:
- Conduct laboratory analyses adhering to industry standards, focusing on tailings material testing such as material characterization, rheology, dewatering, and unconfined compressive strength.
- Utilize your expertise in tailings testing to mentor junior staff and ensure high-quality execution of laboratory tasks.
- Provide leadership and guidance to laboratory personnel, collaborating with the laboratory supervisor to manage daily operations effectively.
- Review test results meticulously to guarantee precise data collection and reporting.
- Engage in the laboratory quality assurance program, assisting with both internal and external audits.
- Work closely with project managers to define testing scopes and objectives, ensuring alignment with project goals.
- Assist in developing testing protocols tailored to client requirements.
- Contribute to the preparation of reports and proposals.
- Monitor laboratory expenditures, labor, and material usage.
What You Bring:
- A degree in Civil, Chemical, or Metallurgical Engineering/Technology or a related field.
- A minimum of 12 years of experience in tailings material testing, including rheology, dewatering, and unconfined compressive strength.
- Thorough understanding of standardized laboratory testing procedures (ASTM, AASHTO, CSA).
- Strong time management, organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- A proven ability to lead and direct staff while collaborating with project teams.
- Capability to navigate conflicting priorities and facilitate resolutions.
- Experience in a fast-paced environment with effective multitasking skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) for data management and reporting.
- A willingness to travel for field program support is advantageous.
- A commitment to health and safety practices in the workplace.
- Current First Aid and WHMIS training is considered an asset.
