About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Software Applications Area Manager to join our team at General Dynamics Land Systems–Canada. As a key member of our organization, you will be responsible for leading a team of software developers and managing the planning, execution, and delivery of software application products and solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Team Leadership
- Provide mentorship and guidance to team members to ensure their growth and development.
- Manage the performance of team members, including setting goals and objectives, providing feedback, and conducting performance evaluations.
- Develop and implement training plans to enhance team members' skills and knowledge.
- Support team members individually and as a group to ensure their success.
- Identify areas for improvement and implement changes to enhance team performance.
- Manage the technical execution of work across R&D, production, and technical changes, ensuring that projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to the required quality standards.
- Communicate and engage with employees to ensure that senior technical SME support is enlisted for higher-risk technical decisions, solutions, and analysis.
- Manage team projects from bid and proposal to close-out, ensuring that all necessary steps are taken to ensure project success.
- Act as Cost Account Manager for all team activities, completing status reports and taking timely action to mitigate the impact of negative EVMS trends.
- Manage resource availability for projects, ensuring that the right resources are allocated to meet project needs.
- Manage team staffing in alignment with the Operational Plan.
- Manage team processes and technical knowledge, ensuring that best practices are followed and that team members have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties.
- Develop and maintain relationships across Engineering teams and stakeholder organizations, ensuring that all necessary stakeholders are engaged and informed.
- Manage relationships with peers and leaders, ensuring that all necessary communication and collaboration occurs.
- Manage supplier and customer relationships, ensuring that all necessary agreements and contracts are in place.
Requirements
- 3+ years' experience leading a team.
- 5 to 7 years' relevant expertise, across the full life cycle of multiple programs.
- University degree or College Diploma in a relevant discipline.
- Good understanding of business processes.
- Awareness of EVMS and willingness to improve and promote its application.
- Proficiency with the software development lifecycle, including both waterfall and agile methodologies.
Preferred Qualifications
- P.Eng, or other relevant certification (CISSP, PMP, etc.).
- Project management experience or certification (PMP).
- Formal or informal leadership experience.
- Familiarity with Atlassian Suite (JIRA, Confluence, Bitbucket, etc.).
