Role Overview: The Risk Assessment Specialist is tasked with conducting a thorough evaluation of new business applications, as well as submitting these applications to our esteemed market partners via their company portals. Furthermore, the Specialist must remain informed about industry regulations and market dynamics to effectively manage risks and ensure compliance with legal standards, thereby upholding underwriting protocols and market appetite while maintaining the highest level of professionalism and precision.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Assess and analyze insurance applications to ascertain risk, eligibility, and completeness.
  • Ensure that Brokers adhere strictly to BIG & Market underwriting standards, guaranteeing that submissions are timely and accurate.
  • Exhibit exceptional customer service when engaging with all Brokers & Market Partners.
  • Process an average of 10 submissions daily, ensuring all New Business is uploaded within a specified timeframe.
  • Effectively manage and follow up on outstanding items.
  • Address escalations from Brokers or Market Partners, striving to de-escalate and resolve issues.
  • Handle administrative tasks related to the Underwriting Team as needed.
  • Initiate contact with key brokers to gather any missing information or documentation required for submissions.
  • Make outgoing calls to market partners regarding submission inquiries.
  • Monitor and respond to emails, voicemails, phone calls, and Teams messages.
  • Onboard and support team members in the training of new Underwriters.
  • Participate in Underwriting team meetings as necessary.
  • Engage in Personal Lines team meetings as required.
Candidate Profile:
  • Understanding of the Insurance Act.
  • Proficient in computer applications.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite and spreadsheets.
  • Experience with insurance market portals.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Collaborative and ethical approach.
  • Problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to multitask.
Qualifications:
  • Completion of secondary education diploma or equivalent.
  • Post-secondary education in Insurance, Business/Office Administration, Economics, Law, Finance, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 1+ years of experience as a Personal Lines underwriter.
  • RIBO license is an asset.
  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) designation is an asset.
  • Canadian Accredited Insurance Broker (CAIB) designation is an asset.
