About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Portfolio Underwriter to join our team at Billyard Insurance Group. As a key member of our underwriting team, you will play a critical role in evaluating and analyzing insurance applications to determine risk, eligibility, and completion.

Key Responsibilities
  • Evaluate and Analyze Insurance Applications: Conduct thorough evaluations of insurance applications to determine risk, eligibility, and completion, ensuring that all necessary information is gathered and verified.
  • Ensure Compliance with Underwriting Guidelines: Ensure that all underwriting decisions are made in accordance with our company's underwriting guidelines and industry regulations.
  • Communicate with Brokers and Market Partners: Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and market partners, providing excellent customer service and ensuring that all communication is accurate and timely.
  • Process Insurance Policies: Process an average of 15 insurance policies daily, ensuring that all coverage is accurate and complete.
  • Escalate and Resolve Issues: Identify and escalate any issues or concerns related to insurance policies, working with brokers and market partners to resolve these issues in a timely and professional manner.
  • Administrative Tasks: Perform administrative tasks associated with the Portfolio Underwriting Team, including reviewing policies with junior staff, handing out work as required, and reviewing files.
Requirements
  • Education and Experience: Completion of secondary education diploma or equivalent required. Post-secondary education in Insurance, Business/Office Administration, Economics, Law, Finance, or related field an asset. A minimum of at least 3+ years of experience working as a Personal Lines underwriter.
  • Skills and Qualifications: Strong analytical mindset, strong attention to detail, able to evaluate and assess risk accurately, solid understanding of insurance principles and underwriting processes, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, commitment to continuous learning and staying updated with industry trends and regulatory changes, collaborative spirit, strong ethical mindset and integrity, adaptable and able to manage and prioritize multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, problem-solving attitude and eagerness to provide solutions.
