POSITION TITLE: Facilities Serviceperson

DEPARTMENT: Transit

EMPLOYMENT TYPE: Full Time Permanent

WORK SCHEDULE: 40-hour workweek / shift work / variable hours

LOCATION: Sandalwood Transit Facility

SALARY GRADE: 7

STARTING SALARY: $29.22 per hour

JOB CLASSIFICATION: Union

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Reporting to the Foreperson of Facilities Maintenance, the incumbent will be accountable for the routine upkeep of all Transit facility assets. Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting daily maintenance of Transit facilities and associated equipment.
  • Assisting the Millwright and/or Utility personnel as required.
  • Performing cleaning and maintenance tasks, including drywall repairs, painting, and minor plumbing work.
  • Operating a forklift for shipping and receiving duties, as well as equipment repairs.
  • Managing sharps disposal and cleaning of bodily fluids, human and pet waste from Transit properties.
  • Carrying out preventative maintenance and inspections on equipment such as hoists, fire suppression systems, and building lighting.
  • Installing and removing bus shelters and bus stop signage, along with other related tasks.
  • Maintaining and cleaning bus shelters and stops using pressure washing equipment.
  • Clearing snow and performing other winter maintenance activities at Transit facilities and bus stops.
  • Executing other similar and related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent secondary education as recognized by the Ontario Ministry of Education.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE & CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Proven experience operating a 4-wheel drive truck with a trailer.
  • Experience with operating a 4-wheel drive truck equipped with a snow plow and salter.
  • Background in general shop maintenance, including carpentry and plumbing.
  • A valid class G driver's license in good standing, with the ability to upgrade to a class DZ license.
  • A current forklift operator's certificate or the capability to obtain one.
  • A current Fall Protection and Aerial Work Platform Certificate or the ability to acquire these certifications.

ADDITIONAL SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES:

  • Ability to work at various heights (above 20 feet).
  • Flexibility to work shifts and variable hours.
  • Capacity to meet the physical demands of the role.
  • Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, emphasizing customer service.
  • Excellent time management and organizational abilities.
  • Capability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Adherence to safety protocols and the use of personal protective equipment as required.
