Position Overview

In the role of Automation Systems Engineer, you will take charge of the design and execution of control systems and automation frameworks tailored for operational efficiency. Your responsibilities will encompass the creation of control architectures, the selection of suitable instruments, and the preparation of comprehensive documentation to guarantee effective integration and performance.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Design, evaluate, and enhance control system frameworks, including P&IDs, control narratives, loop diagrams, and software specifications.
  • Develop and refine control panel layouts, electrical schematics, and cable schedules.
  • Identify and apply instrumentation and process control methodologies for peak performance.
  • Diagnose control system issues and offer technical assistance to operators.
  • Engage in continuous improvement efforts while ensuring adherence to safety and environmental regulations.

Essential Qualifications

  • In-depth knowledge of PID, FF, and cascade control loops.
  • Expertise in electrical systems and control enclosures.
  • Acquainted with industry standards such as ISA 101, 88, and 106.
  • Develop and maintain standardization documents for PLC/DCS programming, HMI design, and communication protocols.
  • Proficient in writing PLC control software, designing HMI interfaces, and configuring data historians.
  • Experience with PLC/DCS systems (preferably Allen Bradley) and HMI/SCADA systems (FactoryTalk & Ignition).
  • Strong problem-solving abilities and capability to work autonomously in a dynamic environment.

Educational Background and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) registration in a Canadian Province is mandatory.
  • A minimum of 4 years of experience in developing control and automation solutions.
  • Practical experience in industrial settings (oil and gas, chemical, pulp and paper, etc.).
