Under the guidance of the Team Leader, the Youth Substance Use Outreach Specialist is an integral part of a multidisciplinary team that delivers substance use treatment and support to clients and their families.

The key responsibilities encompass community outreach and engagement services aimed at youth who are at risk.

This role entails conducting assessments, providing early interventions, and making referrals for youth identified as being at risk for substance use and/or mental health challenges.

Engagement will occur in various environments where connections with at-risk youth can be effectively established, including street-based, school, and community settings.

Delivering addiction services with a focus on maintaining clients within the community, while enhancing youth treatment and rehabilitation plans through consistent and supportive interactions.

As a member of a multidisciplinary healthcare team, you will provide direct community-based early intervention, assessment, treatment planning, and referrals for youth facing challenges related to substance use and/or mental health issues.

You will offer support, guidance, and education to individuals dealing with substance use and/or mental health issues and their families, as identified through assessments.

The incumbent is expected to operate within the framework of Harm Reduction in substance use, advocating for the benefits of this approach in collaborative efforts with other service providers.


Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, Days - 08:30 to 16:30

Compensation :
The wage is: $52.81/hour

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (from an accredited institution) in an Allied Health, Behavioral, or Social Science field relevant to the position, along with two (2) years of recent, related experience in a health setting working with complex youth clients with concurrent disorders.

Assessment and Treatment: Proven ability to conduct initial and ongoing client assessments (clinical and diagnostic reasoning) through appropriate technical, therapeutic, and safety interventions.

Teaching: Ability to educate clients and others both individually and in group settings.

Knowledge Integration: Incorporates best practices and current research evidence to inform professional practice decisions and actions.

Communication: Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with clients, families, the public, medical staff, and interdisciplinary team members using verbal, written, and digital communication methods. Ability to apply conflict resolution skills effectively.

Critical Thinking: Proven ability to analyze and evaluate relevant data (from multiple sources) to solve problems and make informed decisions. Demonstrates critical thinking and decision-making skills using a systematic approach.
