Position Overview

The Clinical Laboratory Specialist is responsible for conducting a variety of analytical tests and procedures within the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. Utilizing established methodologies and quality assurance protocols, this role demands a high level of technical proficiency and problem-solving capabilities to perform both manual and automated tests in clinical and environmental settings.

Key Responsibilities

The Clinical Laboratory Specialist will:

  • Execute laboratory tests following a systematic approach while adhering to established protocols.
  • Work independently in high-pressure situations, including emergency and off-hours scenarios.
  • Operate sophisticated instruments that are integrated with computer systems and networks.
  • Assess test results against pre-defined criteria and make informed decisions regarding reportability, demonstrating independent judgment.
  • Maintain patient confidentiality in accordance with professional standards and ethical guidelines.

Qualifications

We invite candidates who meet the following criteria:
  • Graduation from an accredited Medical Laboratory Technology program.
  • Current licensure with the NSCMLT or eligibility for licensure.
  • Registration with the CSMLS.
  • Flexibility to work various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
  • Willingness to travel as necessary.
  • Proficiency in additional languages is an asset, with a preference for French.

Work Schedule
  • This is a full-time long-term assignment, requiring 75 hours biweekly.
  • Position availability is immediate.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly wage for this position is $37.54. Successful candidates may qualify for a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health, dental, travel, long-term disability, and life insurance, as well as a defined benefit pension plan.
